@nguyeninggainz Incredible Weight Loss Journey

We sat down with @nguyeninggainz and asked him multiple questions about how he transformed his body on his #WeightLossJourney

1) What was your favorite exercise during your weight loss journey?

When I first started my weight loss journey, I was honestly just going on long walks. That gave me time to do some cardio while also giving me time to clear my head and really figure everything out. But when I started going to the gym during the beginning I would say my favorite exercise was Incline Dumbbell Press. Seeing that I worked out alone and was still not comfortable with the gym, I didn’t feel comfortable using the bar just yet so dumbbell exercises were my favorite.

2) What pushed you to want to transform your body?

At my heaviest, my weight was at an all-time high, self-esteem was at an all-time low, I was very much depressed, had given up on myself, and my health was at dangerous levels. Life was at a pretty low point for me. I had a health scare that sent me to hospital after just simply getting sick. It was one of those points in my life where I made up my mind where I needed to/HAD to make a positive change in my life. For me, transforming my body wasn’t just an outward change but most importantly it was changing how I felt on the inside. After setting small goals and slowing seeing myself transform, I gained more and more motivation to keep going and really transform my whole life back to where I wanted it to be.

3) Did you have a trainer or a program that you followed?

I didn’t have a trainer or program when I started. I was completely out of my element in the gym. I was active and played sports growing up but I never stepped foot in a gym before I started my weight loss journey. I was honestly scared to since it was so intimidating. I turned to the internet and YouTube to help teach me exercises, technique, and to help build/develop my fitness routine. I wish I started with a trainer or program...that would have made things a lot easier lol, but I managed to figure out what worked for me through trial and error.

4) What was your diet like?

Diet to me was the absolute thing over anything that helped in my transformation.

Food and nutrition peaked my interest a lot and I knew this was going to be the biggest hurdle, not the exercising or gym. Growing up with an Asian family, food is a big staple where most gatherings involve food. Cooking has always been a huge part of my life and I knew I didn’t want to lose that part. Learning about my macros, my daily caloric intake, and eating at a healthy caloric deficit would help me reach my goals. I learned about meal prepping and wanted to apply my love for cooking/food into my meal Preps that help me transform the healthy foods I love and turn them into healthy delicious foods. I discovered I could meal prep and that would help me reach my fitness goals. To this day, I still try to do my weekly meal preps.

5) Did you use an app? If so or if not, what do you like to see in an app that you use?

I didn’t use an app. But if I did, I would want an app that would help me have a database of exercises and to show people how to execute exercises depending on what equipment you have available or your goal. Also, an app that will definitely help with learning about counting calories/macros. Even having an app with healthy recipes that people can start out with instead of the stigma of eating bland and boring chicken and broccoli all the time lol.

6) What are the next steps for your fitness journey?

The next step in my fitness journey is putting on some size and more muscle. After the stages of weight loss, I transitioned into purposely putting back on weight but in a healthy way this time to put on more muscle. At first, it was an interesting dynamic to want to gain weight again after I spent all that time losing weight. But I have the right mindset, knowledge of nutrition, and work ethic that I know gaining weight isn’t a bad thing for what I want to do. I’ve been doing a series of cuts and bulking for the past two years now. My next step in my fitness journey is to continue to put in a lot of hard work in the gym and to become the best version of myself, but at the same time use my weight loss journey to help inspire people to help them reach their own fitness goals. I know how hard it can be to just start something like this so I truly love teaching/ helping as many people that follow me from family, friends, and all my amazing IG followers that need some motivation to keep going in their fitness goals.
