10 Pieces of Advice For New Personal Trainers From A Personal Training Legend
Learn from the best - The fastest way to master something is to stand on the shoulder of giants.
Get a coach/mentor - Learning content is great and getting feedback allows for immediate course correction. It’s what you’re doing for your clients why wouldn’t you do it for yourself?
Implement what you just learned immediately - The faster you can implement what you learned the faster you embody that information and make it your own.
Find a better way - Be curious and know that how you see a situation today is not how you will see it tomorrow. The more adaptation you can be with your perspective the better results you will get
Iterate fast - You’re likely not going to get it right on the first try...get the feedback, make the adjustment and do it again...and again...and again! When something isn’t working make a change immediately ...don’t throw whats not working out just table it...you may need it later. The faster you fail the faster you can get to mastery.
Be in observation - ask yourself what is this situation telling you...Learning from your experience allows you to identify patterns...pattern identification opens the door to making a change.
Build a business while you’re mastering your craft - Your craft keeps your clients and it’s Your business that gets them and is what will sustain you for years to come.
Communication is key - When you are communicating and coaching with your client the more clear you can be and the more succinct you can be the greater chance they have of understanding you and getting your coaching. This requires you to really know your stuff. Less is more, think laser versus shotgun.
Integrate - how does what you do relate to their world? How does this information relate to other information? Make the connection!
You’re not as good as you think you are and you’re never as bad either - Whatever you think you know or are 100% certain of, or however good you think you are at something...is only limiting you from growing, gettting better and ultimately mastering your craft.
